Ammonia is a (N)aturally occurring refrigerant which is climate and environmentally friendly. It has the (H)ighest efficiency, cost effective to produce and has an extremely low cost per kg compared with synthetic refrigerants. It has a proven use for a (H)undred and fifty years as a safe and effective refrigerant. Ammonia can be used for both (H)eating and cooling for a wide application from minus 45°C/ minus 49°F to an industry-leading 95°C/ 203°F. Continuing development will bring even higher temperatures in the future.

This step-by-step instructional video explains how to perform the slide-valve-position sensor calibration on GEA G series screw compressors using the GEA Omni control panel, including fixed Vi (primary slide) and variable Vi (secondary slide) instructions.

Our slide valve sensor is a linear-displacement sensor instrument that provides relative slide valve position for control and feedback of GEA G Series screw compressors.

“When designing the new factory, we chose to put both processing and utilities experts in the same room and asked them to challenge each other in every aspect of production process and general operations to come up with the ultimate CO2 neutral solution. That solution included using ammonia as a natural refrigerant for the refrigeration and heat pump plant." After a year in production, former Director of Operations at Innocent Drinks in Europe, Andy Joynson, is very happy with the clear results the solution is showing: “We’re operating with something like 60% of the energy demand that would be required to run a plant of equivalent size, so it’s a significant difference”.

A leading, sustainability-focused Canadian refrigeration & heating contractor selected GEA to supply heat pump units for a district energy project in Ontario, Canada. Industrial heat pumps are gaining popularity as corporations and municipalities move toward renewable energy solutions. These game-changing heat pumps are one method of reducing our customers’ carbon footprints by eliminating the use of fossil fuels for heating and cooling applications.

Project Overview:
The project comprises dual, two-stage heat pumps utilizing the natural refrigerant, ammonia, which carries an ozone depletion potential of zero. The heat pumps are used for both district heating and cooling for six million square feet of building space connected to the district’s energy system. Each heat pump will not only provide 2 MW / 569 TR of hot water at 85°C / 185°F, but also 4.4°C / 40°F water for chilling requirements. This project employs the new, extra-high-pressure GEA V XHP reciprocating compressors on the high side. Variable frequency drives are used to drive the electric motors and the use of high-efficiency plate & shell heat exchangers result in a highly efficient solution. Renewable hydroelectric power is used to power the heat pumps.
